Which English football club should I be a fan of?
Jamz asked:
I’m an American, and I’m just getting interested in football (not American football…real, legit football). I want to root for an English team from London. I know that the five teams from London are Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, Fullham, and Chelsea. Describe what the fans of each team are like, and explain why I should root for a certain club.

It’s got to be West Ham mate. Cockney culture. Great support and the best academy in England.
We might not have the money that Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have, but we’ve got the balls.
I’M WEST HAM TILL I DIE.

Arsenal. They play the most attractive football out of all the other ones from London.

If I were you I’d root for Fulham. Fulham are an overachieving mid-table team, so you get to root for a side that are winners without the all the chic, bandwagon-y, glory hunting predictability of the masses that root for Big Four teams. Tottenham would also be a good choice for this reason although Fulham have an American star in Clint Dempsey, who features regularly for the US National team. So that might be a plus since you’re American. Same with West Ham who have Jonathan Spector.
Arsenal is a Big Four team, but they are notable for taking young talent and making them into stars. Arsene Venger is one of the most admirable managers in the English Premier League.
Personally, I wouldn’t even consider rooting for Chelsea… They change managers like every week and acquired massive bandwagon appeal after they were acquired by a Russian Oligarch who spent like a madman to buy them some titles. They’ve been hugely popular after previously being basically nobodies before they came into cash. Most Chelsea fans didn’t support the team 5-6 years ago.
PS — Irksome rant: I’m a fellow American fan, and I’m just going to say that it’s kind of misguided to call American football not real, legit football. That label might make sense if American football were some kind of inferior copy of association football but the two are completely different games. Saying American football is like like a fake, non-legit version of football is like saying that a beef isn’t real, legit chicken. People, get over the name similarity. American football evolved from Rugby FOOTBALL, which evolved from association football. The name stuck. Who cares? It’s not my intention to jump down your throat, but I have a huge distaste for baseless, across the pond sports bashing. Be it Americans ripping on soccer for being somehow weak or mindless to Europeans bashing bashing american football for being somehow weak because of the padding. These stances are both rooted in ignorance on both sides.
As a huge fan of both games, I can safely say that.
Something tells me this response is going to get a lot of thumb-downs…

OK.
In All Time Manchester United are the most succesful team. Most people are a Fan of them.
Some like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea……
Currently Chelsea are 1st in there league and man utd are 2nd.
Man utd are getting good after there win against Wigan Athletic.
Arsenal and liverpool are good too but not as good as man u.
At this point I would say chelsea are very strong.
I think you should be a fan of Manchester United because most people are a fan of them and they are so succesful.

Supporting a club is like falling in love at first sight, its the first one you see its the only one you will follow. No one can tell you who to go for because it is your passion. This is like asking a friend who you should date out of 5 different boys.
