in your opinion, which countries have the best football leagues in the world?
space alien asked:
and why? because European football has the highest ranked leagues (EPL, La Liga, Serie A) they have the most followers, and the best players always end up playing in European clubs. but sometimes i hear people saying that European leagues are all overrated, and that some leagues like the MLS or the Mexican Primera Division are underrated. so what i wanna know is, what do you think the best leagues are, and why????

No, the Europeans have the top talent. It’s just my opinion, but I think La Liga is better than the English league, but that’s just my humble opinion. The top 5 leagues in the world are:
1. La Liga (Spain) – Latin flair and with an attacking mindset
2. English Premier League (England) – all action all the time
3. Seria A (Italy) – very technical and strategy based game
4. Bundesliga (Germany) – physical game that is more entertaining than you’d think. Also, not tainted by the huge money of the top 3. My favorite.
5. Ligue 1 (France) – Good entertainment all in all. I don’t watch it enough to summarize the style.
The Argentines and the Brazilians have good leagues as well, but they lose their top talents very quickly to Europe. Its how they stay financially healthy. The Mexican league is good, but not as good as Argentina or Brazil. MLS is getting better, but its definitely a second tier league. Part of its problem is that its played in the dead of summer, which can be stifling and limits attacking play.

1. La Liga (Spain) – technically better football than EPL and more interesting, because there are more teams moving up and down in the top (except Real, Barca and in the last years FC Sevilla)
2. English Premier League (England) – fastest and more physical football
3. Bundesliga (Germany) – physical game, but also technically more sophisticated and quite efficient, if you think how successful they were in the last years despite having less money than England, Spain and Italy. The Bundesliga has also full stadiums, younger players than ever before and has improved compared to 5 years ago.
4.Seria A (Italy) – very tactical and defensive, but stadiums are not as full as they used to be and less top class players than before. Top teams nowadays are more like elderly homes: very old teams and Italian league football has been in decline in the last years.
5. Ligue 1 (France) – Good football, though defensive and also more empty stadiums, in both respects similar Italy, but much younger teams due to lower average age.
But to answer the second part of your question: I do not know the Mexican football, but the Brazilian and Argentine football and I can tell you that football in both nations has declined as well. Why? Because the best players in these countries are immediately scouted, discovered and bought by European clubs and therefore the South Americans have problems to form good teams in the long-term.
They play good football, but they have nowadays more problems to play fluid football (eg passing), because they do not know each other too well due to sell-outs of their best players, which makes intergration of the team more difficult.
My Brazilian friends told me that the Mexican teams are technically good though.

The MLS is a good league. Maybe we don’t have the world’s top players because with a salary cap of 2.3 million per team that’s not affordable. Let’s not forget MLS teams aren’t burying themselves in debt like most of the world.
